Goodbye To A Friend

It’s with a very heavy heart that I share the following message with you.

Paula Moss lost her battle with cancer early this morning. She has been a longtime member of The Club. She held the treasurer position for several years and she volunteered countless hours over the years, many of which included organizing and running the registration booth for “A Mini Vacation in Vegas” for many years. She and Eddie have always been great fun and on many occasions, they graciously opened their home for The Club - hosting events and several SCMC Annual Christmas Parties.

The funeral will be private. However, there will be a celebration of Paula’s life to which SCMC members will be invited. Details will be posted later.

In lieu of flowers, Eddie requested that a donation be made to any cancer organization in her name.

I compiled the following mosaic - with a few snapshots of Paula, enjoying many of the runs and activities The Club has put on over the years. If you click the mosaic, you’ll be taken to a special Flickr photo page, which includes many, many more photos.

We know many of you have other pictures and if you’d like to share them, please email them to [email protected] and we will get them added to that photo set. Please use the comments section below to leave your sentiments - I am sure Eddie and the rest of the family would appreciate them.

SCMC Northern Arizona Tour: October 8 – October 11

The call of the open road. The wide open spaces of the American West. Indian villages, cheap souvenirs and malt shops.

You’ve heard club members talk about the weekend trips to Sedona, Four Corners, Big Bear and Prescott. Now, the Sin City MINI Club presents the 2010 Northern Arizona Run: October 8 - 11. The first half of the trip will cruise Route 66, and the second half has plenty of twisties.

Click here for website with all the run details.

All you have to do to go is four things (I know it’s a lot, but your MINI will thank you)

1: Call (928) 769-2234 and ask for the $80 group rate on October 8 for the Sin City MINI Club .
2: Call (928) 773-1300 and ask for the $89 group rate on October 9 for the Sin City MINI Club.
3: Call (928) 967-4637 and ask for the $89 group rate on October 10 for the Sin City MINI Club.
4: send an email to [email protected] and let us know you are coming.

To get the group rates, you need to book the hotels by Oct. 1st. See you there!

SCMC Birthday Bowling Party-Tuesday, September 21

Happy Birthday, Sin City MINI Club!!
Come join us for a fun night of bowling as we celebrate the Club’s birthday. Lanes and Cake on us! The bowling reservation is at The Orleans Bowling Center at 4500 West Tropicana Avenue, for three games, starting at 7pm - Tuesday, September 21.

Understandably this is a school/work night - so it might be hard for some of you, but if you’d like to meet up for dinner before hand, we’ll be at The Fuddruckers at The Orleans at 6pm, before moving over to the bowling alley at 7.

Hope to see you there

SCMC Run to Big Bear Lake - This Saturday, September 18

The SCMC will be headed to Big Bear Lake, California this Saturday, September 18. We’ll be meeting at the AM/PM gas station located at the front of the M Casino (N Las Vegas Blvd and Saint Rose Pkwy) at 7:30am.

The ride to Big Bear will take roughly 3.5 – 4 hours. If you have radios, please bring them – we use Channel 7, sub 21 on the runs. We can stop as needed along the 15 freeway for bathroom breaks, etc. We’ll have lunch at Big Bear Lake, and maybe spend an hour or two exploring the twisty, scenic mountain roads before heading home. Depending on the ride down there, and what the group feels like on Saturday – we can alter the itinerary if someone has any interesting side trips in mind. As all of us Miniacs know, it’s more about the ride there than the destination.

It should be a good weekend – the forecast now is predicting 79 degrees and clear skies. I know freeway driving can be tedious, but once we get there the roads on the mountain will be a great change of pace for those of us that live surrounded by thousands of shades of brown and red most of the time.

Hope to see you there.

Cars & Coffee with a Desert MINI Visit

As you might have noticed if you checked out our Events Calendar recently, tomorrow morning we’ll be going to Cars and Coffee. Cars and Coffee normally runs from 7am - 10am. Our plan is to meet up at the nearby It’s a Grind coffee shop at 7:30am (8899 S. Eastern Ave), and after some refreshing brew, journey on over to schmooze with some fellow car fanatics.

Afterward, we are heading over to the new Desert MINI dealership. Tony and Donovan, our friends at Desert MINI, have extended us the opportunity for a sneak preview of their beautiful new dealership at 5750 W. Sahara Ave. SCMC Members will be allowed access to browse through the dealership’s wonderful new showroom, ogle the items in the Accessories Boutique, relax in the fancy new Owners’ Lounge, and wander around the brand new MINI service area.

If you’ve got nothing planned tomorrow, please hop on by Cars and Coffee. Of course, if you have plans already, you really should modify them just a wee bit and come on out. If you can’t make it to Cars and Coffee, but want to head straight over to the dealership, that’s fine too. The Club will be congregating there at about 11am.

For parking at the dealership, please don’t park West of the dealership - Use the parking lot located between the Desert MINI showroom and the Desert Used Cars lot.

Really hope to see you there!!!

Happening This Week

Thanks to everyone that came out to Mt. Charleston last weekend - we had a great showing and lots of fun. There’s more on the schedule for this week, and if it works out, we’d love to see you.

On Tuesday, September 7 at 6:30pm, we’re having our monthly Motor-In. This time we’ll be at Canes Chicken, located on the southern end of The Strip, near the Outlet Mall. On Thursday, we’ll be having a SCMC Board meeting in the conference room upstairs at the NEW Desert MINI dealership at 5750 W Sahara at 6:30pm. Finally on Saturday, we’ll be sauntering over to Cars and Coffee - if you’re up to it some of us will be meeting up at 7am at It’s a Grind, a coffee shop owned by a SCMC member at Eastern and Pebble before going over to 9500 S Eastern to ogle all the cars.

Hope to see you this week.

Happy Motoring!
