MINI Takes The States

MTTS starts next week – are you ready?? There are small groups of members attending several of the different stops during this year’s big event. Hopefully you’ll have the time to come along on one of the legs. Here’s a brief overview of the itinerary.

Early Thursday afternoon a small group of us will be headed north towards San Francisco. Friday in San Francisco there’s a MINI Cross scheduled, and later that evening a MINI Countryman Preview Party.

Saturday morning we’ll head southward to Los Angeles. Saturday’s schedule in Los Angeles looks the same as San Francisco, so we might have to find the California clubs to see about some entertainment.

Sunday morning we’ll pack up and head out to Arizona. MINI of Tempe and MINI North Scottsdale (supported by Dynamic MINI Collective) have teamed up to host a Pool party at Hotel Valley Ho. Monday morning it’s back to the MINIs for the fun ride back to Las Vegas.

Monday night we’re in for a “COOL” treat! Desert MINI of Las Vegas is hosting a Party at the minus5 Ice Lounge inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place,. Inside the “Lodge” guests will enjoy food, ice-cold beer and a variety of fine wines. Once coated and gloved, you’ll be escorted into the world-famous “Ice Lounge” for a once-in-a-lifetime experience and our exclusive MINI Takes the States specialty cocktail. You must be 21 years of age or older to attend and the party is FREE to the first 250 guests with proper MTTS credentials. While the temperature will soar above 100 outside, the “Lodge” will be a comfy 74 degrees and the “Ice Lounge” is kept at a constant 28 degrees Fahrenheit, or -5 degrees Celsius. Please dress accordingly. If you can’t make the ice lounge – party headquarters for the later evening will be back at Palace Station.

Tuesday morning, we’ll be crawling back into the daylight to start the next leg of the trip. We’ll be headed to Salt Lake City – Tuesday evening we’ll be joining MINI of Murray for an evening of fun, food, refreshing beverages and giveaways, with another chance to check out the MINI Countryman.

Wednesday morning we’ll rally up and head out to travel the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats and then out to Grand Junction, CO to rest up before the big arrival in Winter Park and Denver on Thursday.

If you’re going on some of the routes and want to meet up with others in the Club, please email me (Julie) and send me your contact information so we can hook up. Also, if you’re up on Twitter or Facebook – be sure to “follow” me, or “friend” me. I’ll be posting updates as often as my iPhone will allow.

Best Mini Cooper at the Tustin Car Show

Many thanks to Seichi, Larry and Mo for making the trip with me from Vegas to Tustin, CA, for the All Mini Car Show. I heard there were a little more than 100 cars at the event, lots of raffle tickets were sold and many household goods were donated to benefit The Sheephold – a local charity. To top off the day, our lucky SCMC Motorer Mo Ghassedi won Best Mini Cooper. Thanks for a great day!!

May Run: Rachel NV and the Little A’Le’Inn – 22 May

Last month we braved the Valley of Fire…well, some of us did!

Next up, Aliens! Yup, we’re going up the Extra-Terrestrial Highway to Rachel NV and the Little A’Le’Inn. We’ll meet up at the Cannery Casino for a 3:30pm departure. Why so late? Because we’re going to have dinner at the Inn, mingle in a little shopping (who doesn’t what an Alien Bobble-head for their desk?), followed by the traditional R53 sunset salute (Welcome? Warning?) to any aliens that happen to be around.

What’s an R53 salute? Ah, you’ll just have to come along to find out.

May Motor-in but with a twist…Let’s make this a Motoring club again!

The Sin City MINI Club has focused so much on keeping AMVIV a world-class event (thanks to Agro for setting such a high standard!!), that we’ve wandered away from being a car club. Sure, we’re all busy people, but MINI’s are supposed to be FUN!! To paraphrase the Righteous Brothers, “We’ve lost that MINI feeling”…

Well, no longer.  As a club we are aiming to to have more events each month, and with more variety.  Sounds great, right?

What’s the catch you say?  Frankly, we need your help.  What do you want to do?  Is there a run you’ve always wanted to go on?  Do you have an idea for an overnight trip somewhere?  Maybe a motor-in breakfast instead of dinner?  Picnics, scavenger hunts…? Basically, I’m short on imagination and need fresh ideas so we can make this your club.

My goal is that with your assistance we’ll the calendar for several months in advance so everyone will know what’s coming when and can plan accordingly.  To kick this off, I am asking anyone with ideas to meet me at the Crown and Anchor on Tropicana at 6:30pm, Thursday, 13 May.  We’ll have dinner, probably some beer, and then we’ll knock out some ideas for the next several months.  Hope to see ya there!

Even if you can’t stay for the event planning, at least join us for dinner and beers…this will also be our May Motor-in.

And…if you have ideas but can’t make the meeting, email them to me..

If you plan to attend, please let me know by emailing me here so I can make sure the C&A can accommodate everyone.

SCMC February Run – Calico Ghost Town

The next Sin City MINI Club run will be the final tune up prior to AMVIV as we head to Calico Ghost Town on Saturday, 20 February (for those not familiar, it’s off the I-15 just north of Barstow, CA http://www.calicotown.com).

Due to popular demand, we have changed the departure location and time of the Calico run.  Rather than launching from Aliante at 0800, we will now depart from the Las Vegas Outlet Mall at 0830.  The Outlet Mall is located at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Warm Springs.  The revised map is here.

Since Calico offers a great location for an overhead group photo, we’re really hoping for a great turnout.  Please join us!

As usual, don’t forget to bring your radios tuned to Channel 7 sub 21 (although it’s not required).

Also, be sure to reserve 25 Feb in your calendar for our next Motor In.  It will be at BJ’s (9520 S Eastern Ave. Henderson NV)…It’s in the same strip mall as Cars and Coffee.

Thanks!

SCMC January Run (Saturday, 16 January)

The next couple of clubs runs will be rehearsals for AMVIV events.  For the first run of 2010, SCMC will visit Death Valley and the lowest point in North America (and coincidentally enough only 76 miles from Mt Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous 48 states).  Mike Morine will be leading this run and will depart from the fourth level of the Aliante parking structure at 10 AM (or the third level in case it’s closed).  Timing for the departure is critical to assess traffic prior to the real AMVIV run, so please be on time and ready to go! The following link will show you the planned route on Google maps (http://tiny.cc/deathvalley179). (Read on…)
