With all the planning that’s been happening for our event, A MINI Vacation In Vegas, it’s kind of a nice switch to post this notice I received in my Inbox today.
MINIUSA has opened registration for MTTS 2012. To get registered and to learn more about this nationally sponsored MINI event, follow this link.
Unfortunately, it appears the official route will bypass Las Vegas. The cross country rally begins at MINI Headquarters in Woodcliff, NJ on July 4, and from there the route meanders westward. The closest it will get to us is Phoenix, AZ – and then of course the final destination, Los Angeles, CA. Here is a list of the cities MTTS 2012 is set to visit:
A few Club members have expressed an interest in rallying together, but from various starting points. If you plan on participating in MTTS and need a place to form your plans – please use this blog post, the Club’s Facebook page, or our forum on northamericanmotoring.com.
Well – after the sanding some of us took on the Club Run to Kelso, we decided better safe than sorry. So… who could have predicted last Sunday’s weather would have turned out as beautiful as it did? Oh well…
We tallied up your votes and the Valley of Fire run has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 1, 2012. We will meet at the Petro Stopping Center at 6595 North Hollywood Boulevard. Try to arrive early so that we can leave as close to 10AM as possible! We will make the run through the Valley of Fire and then continue down North Shore Drive through Lake Mead. Note there is a fee to enter Valley of Fire it is $8 for Nevada residents otherwise $10.
I looked this morning and the skies look clear for Sunday – Hope to see you there
We’ve got an Impromptu Motor In for you. Wednesday March 14, 2012 at 18:30. It will be at Murphy’s Law located at 1590 E. Flamingo, Las Vegas, NV, 89119. Hope to see you there.
Don’t forget about the club run this month on Sunday March 18, 2012 meeting at 10AM at the Petro Stopping Center at 6595 North Hollywood Boulevard. Try to arrive early so that we can leave as close to 10AM as possible! We are doing the Valley of Fire run through Valley of Fire and then down North Shore Drive through Lake Mead. Note there is a fee to enter Valley of Fire it is $8 for Nevada residents otherwise $10.
Happy Motoring!
This month we are going to meet up to drive out to Oatman, AZ. Meet up at 0900 (9AM) at Fiesta Henderson Casino Hotel, 777 W Lake Mead Pkwy, Henderson and we will head out for the run. The drive is 240 miles round trip.
Yes… this Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday – what better time to get out of Dodge?
Yes, it’s true. Some of us are just not that into football, and are looking anywhere and everywhere for something better to do. Last year we thought up the Football Boycott – and headed to Utah for some lunch. There was a pretty good turnout of folks with no vested interest in the day’s sporting outcome, and we had a great time.
This year, we’ll head northward again and go for a nice ride – instead of Utah, this time we’ll stay in Nevada. We’ll go north on the I-15, and take the exit into Moapa Valley. From that point we’ll drive through Logandale and Overton and on through Lake Mead.
For lunch we’ve got some choices, we don’t have to plan everything all the time. Let’s just wing it, shall we? We’ll let the group decide where we go on Sunday. There are two places in Overton to choose from – there’s Sugar’s Home Plate , which the Club has been to before; and Inside Scoop, which would be something new for us. Or… we can drive into the Lake Las Vegas resort area, and try out one of the restaurants there. Rick’s Café inside Loews and The Auld Dubliner Pub both look interesting, but there are other choices as well.
We’ll meet at the Petro Shopping Center by the Las Vegas Motor Speedway at 10am, and plan to roll out by 1030am.
And if you have plans already for Super Bowl Sunday but want to see the Club this weekend – Saturday is our monthly stop and Cars and Coffee – at 9500 S Eastern Ave, Henderson: 8:00am to 10:30am.
Hope to see you there – Have a good weekend!
This is just a reminder about the Speedway Charities “Laps for Charity” fund raiser this Sunday, January 29 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We’ve had 17 people express an interest so far, but there is no limit. If you’d like to go, but didn’t pre-register, you can sign up at the event when we get there Sunday morning.
I contacted Speedway Charities and let them know we are coming. We have a slot booked for the track during the Club portion of the event – our start time is set for 10:30am, scheduled right after the Pontiac G8 Club. The organizers have requested that we start lining up at least a half hour before our start time. There will be a LOT of interest in this event, and the better we can set this so we arrive at the same time, the easier it will be to get lined up and riding. UPDATE! Let’s meet up in the Shelby Museum parking lot at 6755 Speedway Blvd at 9:15am and then ride out together at 9:30am sharp!
If you pre-registered please print out and bring your pre-registration form as they will have a reserved lane for pre-registered participants. If you didn’t pre-register, NO WORRIES! Make sure to bring either extra cash or a credit card. You can also donate an additional $20.00 for 3 additional laps and take a picture in Victory Lane for an additional $10.00.
Hope to see you there – 9:15am on Sunday, January 29, in the Shelby Museum parking lot at 6755 Speedway Blvd
This is just a quick remember that tomorrow we’ll be having our monthly drive. This month we are going to Kelso, CA and back. We will meet at the top floor (roof) of the parking garage at The M Resort Spa & Casino – Las Vegas, 12300 Las Vegas Blvd S, Henderson, NV 89044 at 9:30AM. Please try to be on time.
From there we will drive to Kelso, CA to check out the Kelso Depot. Lunch will be most likely in Baker but if we see something more interesting on the drive we could stop there. The drive is 192 miles round trip from the M Resort. According to Google Maps it will take about 4 hours of drive time, this is not including the stops. Please try to make it to the M on time so we can make a prompt departure. If your going to be late please call or text Chris at 702-769-4543 and we will hold up a bit for you.
Hope to see you there!
In case you missed it – We sent out an AMVIV mail blast late last night. The AMVIV committee has decided to return to Palace Station for AMVIV 9 and hotel registration is now open. Also, we have opened up the AMVIV9 Design Contest for tshirt, hat and badge designs. If you missed the email blast, please follow this link for more details: http://www.amviv.com
We also have an update for you regarding the Laps for Charity event on Sunday, January 29 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. So far we’ve had 9 Club members express an interest.
I contacted Speedway Charities and let them know we are coming. We have a slot booked for the track during the Club portion of the event. As you might imagine, there will be several Car Clubs at the event. Good news – Our Club will come after the Pontiac G8 club. I am guessing they will be a little quicker off the starting line than the Smart Cars were last year.
Our time slot is 10:30am – and they would like us there at the Speedway lining up at 10:00am. It would probably be a good idea for those of you that are attending to rally up ahead of time, so we can all ride in together. I would suggest we meet up at the Shelby Museum parking lot at 9:15am and then ride out together at 9:30am sharp! There will be a LOT of interest in this event, and the better we can set this so we arrive at the same time, the easier it will be to get lined up and riding.
Pre-registration is NOT REQUIRED. There is a $30 entry fee – and it will be a lot easier if you can possibly go to their website and register for the event and pay the fee ahead of time. You can list “Sin City MINI Club” as your company on the registration form. However, if you aren’t comfortable paying ahead of time, or by credit card online – you do have the option of bringing cash or check to the event. The website for this event is: http://lasvegas.speedwaycharities.org/events/laps_for_charity/ The registration link is at the bottom of the page, or here: https://lasvegas.speedwaycharities.org/events/laps_for_charity/registration/
Another thing to be aware of – when you arrive, and after we line up, there will be folks walking around to have you sign a waiver.
Hope to see you there
The Sin City MINI Club participated in this event last year, and some of us are looking to do it again.
Experience the thrill of driving your car around the 1.5-mile super speedway at 75-miles per hour all to benefit the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities. Feel the rush as you take to the high bank turns and just go, go, GO! Pre-registration is not required, you can pay at the event.
Drivers must be 18 years of age or older. All occupants of the vehicle must be at least 6 years of age or older. If you have children under 6 with you, they may not ride along & must have an adult (18 years or older) that will stay with them while you take your ride..

Their website states that laps will be conducted for Car Clubs by reservation (TBD) and for the General Public from 11 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with no reservation needed for the later. If you are interested in participating in this event with the Club, please email me at president@sincityminiclub.com at your earliest opportunity. I will contact the Speedway and let them know how many of us are coming. Details about our joint trip to the track will be announced later.
For more information please contact Speedway Children’s Charities at (702) 632-8242
Last year as a last minute/impromptu thing, one of our members, Larry Simpson, suggested a run the day after Christmas. Those that went had a great time. It was a short fun run through the Red Rock Loop. Last year we had a quick brunch and then headed out on the drive.
Unfortunately, the day after Christmas this year is a Monday, so our sincerest apologies to those of you that are stuck with work or other commitments. We do our best to try and accommodate folks when we can. Hopefully, if you can’t make it, next time things will work out and we will see you at the next club event.
If you can make it, our run begins with a late breakfast at The Beach Cafe, 7750 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89139. They are situated behind the Sinclair gas station on the south east corner of Robindale and Jones. From there we’ll proceed in a somewhat orderly fashion to Red Rock. Keep in mind, the entrance fee to the Red Rock Scenic Loop is $7 so be advised there is a fee (‘free’ to those of you who have paid for the annual National Parks pass). Bring exact ‘change’ if possible, as it will make moving through the collection window go that much faster.
Hope to see you there!
Happy Holidays folks
