First off – we have a bit of a conflict with our planned Route 66 Fun Run for April 30th. For those of you that don’t know, The Laughlin River Run is one of the biggest annual motorcycle rallies in Nevada. Our scheduled run and the Laughlin River Run are the same weekend. Oatman will probably be overrun with bikers on that Saturday. We might be rescheduling our April 30th run to just go to Kingman for the car show, or may put in a stop in Chloride, and avoid the Laughlin areas. Or we might just pick a different weekend entirely, so that the run would still be a test run for the AMVIV run. We will keep you posted on this. Of course, we can still go the planned route, and just deal with all the motorcycles when we stop. After all, its a Saturday – what else do we have to do? It would make the drive interesting.
If any of you have any thoughts on this, we’d be happy to hear them.
Next up, one of our members sent me an email this week about the Shakespeare’s Grille and Pub in Henderson, 790 Coronado Center Dr. #130. On their schedule of events, they include Mini Cooper Sundays. This is a weekly invite to Mini Coopers in the valley (new and classic) to come and hang out for the day. They’ll be open for brunch, with special brunch prices and drink specials. I’ll be headed over this Sunday to see what it’s all about, if you’ve got some time, let’s do brunch.
Our next Motor In will be Wednesday, April 20, 6:30pm, at Grind Burger, 360 E Tropicana. Here’s a link to their menu: http://grindburgers.com/menu.html
Our next AMVIV Planning Meeting is Thursday, April 21, 6:30pm at The Clubhouse, 4803 Mojave Road.
Remember that group of French Classic Mini Coopers heading to the US to cruise Route 66? This trip is planned for 3 weeks. Thursday, April 21 to Sunday, May 15, 2011. I have the Western portion of their itinerary – if you’d like it, let me know. I thought it might be fun if the Club met up with them during their trip, either to ride along for a while along their route or just around Vegas – or maybe just to have a meal or something.
For those of you interested in special edition MINIs, MINI is producing the MINI Clubman Hampton Design. See the MINI Clubman Hampton later this month at Desert MINI of Las Vegas, or get a sneak peak in The Desert MINI Lounge on Facebook.
Have you heard about the new Fiat 500, and their marketing efforts attempt to compare it to the MINI Cooper? If you don’t follow them as regularly as you might like, White Roof Radio talked about this on their show this week. If you’d like to catch both sides of this argument, check out their podcast on iTunes, or follow this weblink for Woofcast #375: http://www.whiteroofradio.com/woofcast-375/
Interested in a custom license plate frame? Please check out this web site gourmetlicenseframes.com Several of the designs fit and look great on the Mini Coopers. He said he’d be glad to design a custom frame for our group and forgo a design fee with a minimum order of 10 (shipping will be less that way too). They would also make great gifts or awards, if we were so inclined. Let me know if any of you are interested.

We finally heard from The Rio. Our tour of The Rio will be this Thursday at 6pm. I apologize for the late notice. They only just today called us back. We felt it best to get these tours knocked out as quickly as possible so we can decide on a location for AMVIV 8 and get down to some serious planning. It turned out that we will be visiting all three properties this week.
Tuesday is our first walk through at Palace Station – meet at the Palace Station Guest Registration area at 7pm
Tomorrow is our second walk through at South Point – meet at the South Point Guest Registration Area tomorrow, Wednesday July 21 at 6pm.
Thursday will be our third and final walk through at The Rio – meet at The Rio Guest Registration area Thursday, July 22 at 6pm.
If you are interested in accompanying us on the tours. RSVP if you can, as soon as possible.
Our next AMVIV planning meeting will be at Cheeburger Cheeburger, 8390 South Rainbow Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89139-6793, Friday, July 9 at 6:30pm. We need discuss our hotel choices and start talking more about what we plan to do at next year’s event. If you’d like to come out, even if you haven’t come before, please stop by. The more input we put, the better we can make this year’s event. The burgers are pretty good, too.
We had a rather productive evening reviewing several hotel/casino proposals and we’ve narrowed our selection down quite a bit. This Sunday, 6/27, we are meeting on the top floor of the South Point garage – we plan to walk the property as a group (without hotel staff accompaniment) and judge its suitability for next year’s event. After South Point, we will be touring four other properties – The Rio, Harrah’s, The Stratosphere, and The Riviera.
If you have time on Sunday afternoon and would like to walk these properties with us – we’ll meet you on the rooftop of South Point’s parking garage at 3pm.
We’re having a meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 22 to discuss the proposals we’ve received from hotels for next year’s AMVIV.
Anyone interested in helping with AMVIV planning is most cordially invited. Connie and Ladd’s Clubhouse, 4803 Mojave Road just North of the Tropicana intersection at 6:30pm.
Hope to see you there
