Laps for Charity Event / AMVIV Update

In case you missed it – We sent out an AMVIV mail blast late last night. The AMVIV committee has decided to return to Palace Station for AMVIV 9 and hotel registration is now open. Also, we have opened up the AMVIV9 Design Contest for tshirt, hat and badge designs. If you missed the email blast, please follow this link for more details: http://www.amviv.com

We also have an update for you regarding the Laps for Charity event on Sunday, January 29 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. So far we’ve had 9 Club members express an interest.

I contacted Speedway Charities and let them know we are coming. We have a slot booked for the track during the Club portion of the event. As you might imagine, there will be several Car Clubs at the event. Good news – Our Club will come after the Pontiac G8 club. I am guessing they will be a little quicker off the starting line than the Smart Cars were last year.

Our time slot is 10:30am – and they would like us there at the Speedway lining up at 10:00am. It would probably be a good idea for those of you that are attending to rally up ahead of time, so we can all ride in together. I would suggest we meet up at the Shelby Museum parking lot at 9:15am and then ride out together at 9:30am sharp! There will be a LOT of interest in this event, and the better we can set this so we arrive at the same time, the easier it will be to get lined up and riding.

Pre-registration is NOT REQUIRED. There is a $30 entry fee – and it will be a lot easier if you can possibly go to their website and register for the event and pay the fee ahead of time. You can list “Sin City MINI Club” as your company on the registration form. However, if you aren’t comfortable paying ahead of time, or by credit card online – you do have the option of bringing cash or check to the event. The website for this event is: http://lasvegas.speedwaycharities.org/events/laps_for_charity/ The registration link is at the bottom of the page, or here: https://lasvegas.speedwaycharities.org/events/laps_for_charity/registration/

Another thing to be aware of – when you arrive, and after we line up, there will be folks walking around to have you sign a waiver.

Hope to see you there :)

SCMC Reminder

A little reminder about our meeting this week.

Do you want SCMC to host AMVIV in 2012? Well, speak up! here’s your chance! The meeting is Thursday, July 14 at 6:30pm, at Connie and Ladd’s Clubhouse. Just three items on the agenda, folks –

1) If the Club will host AMVIV9 in 2012
2) When will AMVIV9 be held?
3) Who will be the principal organizers?

If you can make it, great! We’ll see you there. If you can’t make it, please let us know your opinions.

We’re not asking you to commit to any organizing at this time. We just want to know whether or not you want the Club to sponsor this event in 2012.

If we don’t hear anything at all from you, we will have to assume that you no longer support the event, and would prefer the Club NOT host it. So please, if you can’t make it, let us know your thoughts on the matter.

We also have a small update for you – We’re moving the Mt Charleston Picnic to Sunday, July 17. Club members will meet at Santa Fe Station at 11:00AM in the northeast side of the parking lot just to the right from the main entrance on Rancho. Santa Fe’s address is 4949 N. Rancho Dr. LV, NV 89130. We will motor up the mountain (leaving the Santa Fe at 11:30AM) for a short drive and have a picnic. This will be a potluck as it has been in years past; the club will provide burgers and hot dogs. If you could e-mail Chris and let him know what you are bringing to share as a side, he will inform the rest of the club with a list of what everyone is bringing. Chris will be sending out an email a little later to let us know the rest of the details, so be sure to keep an eye on your Inbox.

AMVIV9 in 2012?

We’re holding a Club meeting on Thursday July 14 at 6:30pm where we will collectively determine AMVIV’s future.

Participation is IMPERATIVE!

We have only three topics to discuss at this meeting:

1) If the Club will be hosting AMVIV9 in 2012
2) When it will be held
3) Who will be the principal organizers

So – if you want the Club to move forward with AMVIV9 in 2012, please make room in your schedule and come meet with us. Thursday, July 14, 6:30pm at Connie & Ladd’s Clubhouse.

Hope to see you there!

AMVIV Volunteer Dinner

AMVIV isn’t done until we have our dinner and thank everyone for helping out. According to EVERY attendee I spoke to, this AMVIV was spectacularly successful, and a very large part of that is do to the hard work of everyone in the club who stepped up and stuffed bags, worked a booth, or led a run. From myself and the rest of the AMVIV planning committee, we want to say a hearty THANK YOU and WELL DONE!

Now on to the party. As is tradition, the club is hosting a party for the volunteers. If you worked at the event or at the bag stuffing or were a member of the planning committee, this party is for you and a guest.

We recognize this is short notice, but the Club will be hosting a cookout next Saturday, June 4, 2:00pm at Pedro’s house. The address is: 287 Hampton Ridge Ct, Henderson NV 89002.

All we ask is that you RSVP as soon as possible so we can get a head count so we know how much food to buy.

Please RSVP to Julie (president@sincityminiclub.com)

AMVIV8 Event Wrap Up

Well, AMVIV has been and gone. A great time with great friends, both old and new. My deepest thanks to all the planners and volunteers that helped out this year. If the comments are to be believed – you helped make this year’s AMVIV the best yet. I know there were times over the past few months where some of us were trying very hard not to pull our hair out – but the end result was more than any of us expected.

A special thanks to Karen for her tireless work for the Vendor Setup and Mixer – and the Party at The Palace. She took my ideas and ran with them and WOW! what a great time! Also to Lisa for the great awards… and to Chris and Lisa for making sure my special treasures from Victoria’s Secret were presented to the MINI community with such panache. ;) Also to Mike and Manny – the car show went great and all told we raised roughly $1050 for S.A.F.E. House. Not too shabby. More thanks to Agro, Conny, Pedro and Ross: none of it would have happened without you!

I’ve posted a final wrap on the AMVIV page, if you’d like to read more about this year’s event – please follow this link.

Normal Club activities will return, as soon as the ‘platoon’ catches up on their sleep. Thanks again everyone!!!

A MINI Vacation In Vegas 8 Is Here

After months of meetings and preparation, the time has finally come. The festivities start today at 3pm when Registration for AMVIV8 opens.

Many of you volunteered to help during the weekend, for which we are grateful. The Club booth will be located in the Motoring Midway, on the 5th floor of the parking garage – with all of the vendors. If you are new to the MINI community or have some free time on your hands this weekend, feel free to drop by anytime. This is perfect time to see what sorts of products and services are available to you. And if you wanted to help with the booth – there could be an opportunity for that as well. As with anything, people’s schedules can change at the last minute and sometimes folks can’t be there as scheduled. Also, if you want to slip in and give someone a break to catch a bite to eat, I am sure they would welcome the respite.

For those of you looking to go on some runs, there are four scheduled during the weekend all leaving from the roof of the parking garage at Palace Station: Oatman/Kingman on Thursday leaving at 8am, Death Valley on Friday leaving at 8:30am and the infamous Strip Cruise leaves at 7:30pm, Charleston on Saturday leaving at 1pm, and Amboy on Sunday leaving at 9am.

There is an early bird Slots Tournament for attendees tonite starting at 7:30pm, and on Friday there is a Poker Tournament for attendees starting at 3:00pm.

Saturday morning from 8am-11am Cars and Coffee, 9500 S Eastern Ave., is hosting the annual all MINI Show and Shine Benefit Car Show for S.A.F.E. House. Saturday evening will bring the Main Event – The Party At The Palace.

Finally, on Sunday there will be an SCCA Autocross starting at 7am, held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the Dirt Track Paddock, also known as the U-Drift location. Sunday brunch at Shakespeare’s Grille & Bar at 9:30 is also on the agenda.

I know the weather looks a little wonky, but I think that wind is blowing the cold and nastiness away. I read that the weekend is supposed to be FINE!

We’ve got folks coming to town from all over the country in their shiny MINIs – Alaska, Kansas, Florida, Connecticut, Mississippi, Illinois, Minnesota, North and South Carolina, Washington, Oregon, South Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Wyoming, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona; even a few from Canada. Come on down and say Hi!

SCMC News for 5/6

** A MINI Vacation In Vegas 8 (AMVIV8 for short) is almost here! Our bag stuffing event is next weekend, Saturday, May 14, starting at 9:00am at The Clubhouse, 4803 Mojave Drive. This is where we stuff the attendee registration and vendor goodie bags. If you have the time, we could really use all hands for this one. The more Club members come in to help, the faster the morning goes. We’ll be having bagels and coffee for breakfast, and pizza for lunch. For those of you curious about the schedule of events for the weekend – here’s the link: http://www.amviv.com/schedule/

** French Classic Mini Visitors – World Mini Raid are almost here! There is a group of French travelers, who brought their Minis over from Europe to drive Route 66 from coast to coast. They are set to arrive in Vegas on this Sunday May 8th at about 6pm. Their schedule indicates they will be leaving needles at 8am and here is the rest of their day:
- 9:45-10:15 : Kelso Dunes
- 12:00-1:30 : Pic-nic at Hole in the Wall
- 4:15-4:45 : Gas station at Statelin Service (near the Nothern exit of Mojave National Preserve)
- 5:30 : arrival at Las Vegas Blvd
- 6:00 : arrival at our hotel (Stratosphere)
I am thinking about meeting them at Needles at 8am… or maybe Kelso at 9:45am and was curious if anyone was available and interested in joining me. Looks like they’ll be having dinner at Roxy’s Diner (Stratosphere) on Sunday night but wanting some BBQ on Monday night. In considering budget (I imagine this has been an expensive trip for them), I would like to setup dinner on Monday evening at Famous Dave’s on Blue Diamond. We could meet them at the Stratosphere and perhaps take a ride up The Strip with all of our Minis and MINIs to get to Blue Diamond and Famous Dave’s . Let me know if you are interested, as I will need to call the restaurant ahead of time to let them how many people are coming.

** Toni let me know that Nellis Air Force is hosting a F-22 Raptor public visit this weekend, if folks are interested in checking it out, we can go from Cars and Coffee. Just let me know if this sounds interesting to you, so I can pass along a number of interested folks to Toni.

** This weekend we have our regular activities on the schedule: Our monthly Cars and Coffee stop on Saturday morning, and brunch on Sunday at Shakespeare’s (if you’re not into the French traveler meetup).

** Next week Thursday, May 12th we’ll be having our last AMVIV meeting, 6:30pm at The Clubhouse – to cover all of the last minute plans.
